Bizarre Cat Spanking Video Appears To Show Animal Enjoying Heavy Pats

WATCH: Is 'Cat Spanking' Totally Wrong?

Is "cat spanking" totally wrong, or just really weird?

This cat’s bizarre, and seemingly positive, reaction to the bum swatting is not a singular event. There are plenty of other videos of cats seeming to also "ask for the pat." In fact, so many cat owners have noticed the unusual behavior, that they have taken to online forums to discuss the pros and cons of the controversial practice.

Some warn that cats have a very high threshold for pain, so while they might seem happy, the spanking could be causing internal injury. Others claim that the reaction is sexual. Their behinds are an erogenous zone, and the heavy petting reminds them of mating. Their raised bums and straight tail indicate that they are aroused and ready for action.

Manhattan cat specialist Dr. Arnold Plotnick, told The Huffington Post that this behavior is not typical in cats, but female felines in heat do react dramatically when touched on their rears, though the same cannot necessarily be said about males. Plotnick also noted that the skin in the area is extremely sensitive, so pleasure may be derived from the combination of the touching and attention.

Whether or not this cat touching constitutes abuse, it probably isn't the best idea. There is a difference between hitting and heavy patting, so always use your best judgment to gauge what is comfortable for your cat.
