Brian Williams returned to the anchor desk on Tuesday night almost a month his knee operation.

The host, who had been living with chronic knee pain for years, underwent knee replacement surgery in August. Lester Holt filled in on "NBC Nightly News" while he was out on medical leave.

"During my four weeks of rehab, I heard from a lot of you, a lot of my fellow knee recipients and it cheered me on and cheered me up greatly," Williams said Tuesday.

He spent time recovering in Ocean County, N.J. In an update to viewers last month, he said that he was making progress in his recovery and that he was "anxious to get back in the game just as soon as [he is] able."

CORRECTION: Williams spent time recuperating in Ocean County, not Ocean City as was originally stated.
