University Of Illinois Beer Research Lab: Top 'Party School' Getting New 'Bud Lab'

An Illinois campus recently named one of the top three party schools in the nation on Friday will celebrate the grand opening of a unique new beer research lab for students.

But the University of Illinois' new "Bud Lab" is probably not what you're thinking.

The lab, housed in the Champaign, Ill. university's research park, will actually be a data analytics center allowing students to work with employees of inBev of Belgium, which owns Anheuser-Busch, to examine how social media, promotions and market trends impact sales, according to the Champaign News-Gazette.

And, no, the lab won't involve any tasting or brewing of beer, Fox Chicago notes.

"Of course we're trying to be careful about anything that would give a perception of condoning underage drinking, which is not the intention of this center," Laura Frerichs, the school's research park director, told Fox.

The park is also home to other high-profile companies including Yahoo and Abbott Laboratories, according to Crain's.
