The guys had an idea for a great prank to play on the girls on "America's Next Top Model." They thought it would be funny to put creepy clown figurines all over the girls' room in the middle of the night. It could have been a great prank, but for one problem. Kanani had more than just a mild fear of clowns. She was absolutely terrified of them.
“Kanani has just an irrational fear of clowns. It’s debilitating. It’s so bad for her," said Jiani.
Kanani absolutely freaked out, screaming and throwing the clowns off of her bed. Later, she explained, "I break out into hives. Like, I feel like I’m going to die.”
Writing for NewNowNext, Eric Shorey said the joke became less of an LOL and more of an OMG! "Kanani (who has a pretty extreme case of coulrophobia) has a full blown panic attack, cries and shivers in her bed, and has to shove an inhaler in to her face to recover," he wrote. "Pranks are so funny.”
On Twitter, Tyra Banks said that maybe the guys took it a little too far. As for Kanani, she was unable to go to sleep after that scare, fitfully staying awake all night. As a result, she found it hard to focus at the next day's photoshoot. She looked so exhausted and worn out in her photos that she got eliminated, leading to an awkward exchange as she was departing.
“I’m sorry about the clowns," Marvin told her as her dreams were crashing around her. The clowns that had cost her everything.
The competition continues on "America's Next Top Model," Fridays at 9 p.m. ET on The CW.
