How The 'Game Of Thrones' Dragons Come To Life

The "Game of Thrones" dragons are just tennis balls ... until the special effects come in.

Pixomondo, the VFX company tasked with creating the adolescent dragons on "Game of Thrones" Season 3, placed tennis balls on sticks and even used stuffed animals to stand in for the computerized dragons with Emilia Clarke.

To get the movements of the dragons down, Pixomondo studied other winged-creatures such as eagles and bats.

"We looked at big goose animals when they are on the ground, how they play with their wings even though they’re not able to fly," effects supervisor Sven Martin told Wired.

See how Pixomondo brought the "Game of Thrones" dragons to life in the video from Wired above.
