When "Supernatural" Season 9 premieres (Tues., Oct. 8 at 9 p.m. ET on The CW), the Winchesters will be facing a host of new challenges, with the King of Hell currently held captive -- leaving demonkind without a leader -- and all the angels banished to earth without their wings. As showrunner Jeremy Carver pointed out at Comic-Con, "a world of fallen angels is a dirty, bloody, scary and, in some ways, very human world," one that will create "a tremendous amount of fallout" for the brothers.
Our heroes are also looking a little worse for wear, with Sam (Jared Padalecki) on death's door following the aborted trial to close the gates of Hell -- but can Dean (Jensen Ackles) do anything to save him, or, as the elder Winchester says in the new promo above, is Sam's life in "God's hands" now?
The trailer also features a first glimpse at Tahmoh Penikett's fallen angel Ezekiel, a disoriented (and very human) Castiel, and the return of both demonic knight Abaddon (Alaina Huffman) and Death (Julian Richings) himself.
Also returning this season are Jim Beaver as the beloved Bobby Singer and Felicia Day as fan-favorite Charlie Bradbury. "Whodunnit" host Gildart Jackson will also appear as another member of the Men of Letters.
Will Sam fully recover from his ordeal -- and what will Dean have to do to ensure he does? Find out when "Supernatural" Season 9 premieres on Tuesday, Oct. 8 at 9 p.m. ET on The CW.
