Miguel Delgado Shot: Chicago Man Held On $1 Million Bond After 19-Year-Old's Wicker Park Murder

A 29-year-old Chicago man from was ordered held on $1 million bond Sunday after he was accused of murdering a 19-year-old man outside a popular strip of Wicker Park bars Saturday.

Logan Square resident Manuel Gonzalez, 29, was charged Sunday with one count of first-degree murder and two counts of attempted first-degree murder, NBC Chicago reports.

Delgado's mother wailed in the Leighton Criminal Court Building Sunday after bond was set for her son's alleged killer, according to the Sun-Times.

“Why did he have to kill my son?” she cried.

Delgado died minutes after he was shot in the head across the street from Nick’s Beer Garden, in the 1500 block of North Milwaukee Avenue, the Sun-Times reports. Officers patrolling the area heard gunshots just after the bar's closing time, around 2:20 a.m. Saturday.

A police source told DNAinfo Chicago Saturday's shooting was gang-related. Gonzalez and his associates allegedly tried to shoot an 18-year-old who was with Delgado and fired the direction of a third man.

Delgado's brother told the Sun-Times the 19-year-old wasn't in a gang but rather worked two jobs -- one alongside his father -- and had plans of going to college to study nursing.

Two other people were initially questioned, but were released after Gonzalez was positively identified as the shooter through several line-ups.
