Broward Church Van Accident Kills 3, Injures 13 On I-75 (VIDEO)

A weekend trip to a Haitian religious convention in Tampa turned tragic for one Broward church when its van flipped on I-75 Saturday.

One passenger, Nostra Damas, 20, died shortly after the accident and two more, Ose Elian, 22, and Gertha Petit Frere, 62, have since passed away from their injuries, according to the Florida Conference of Seventh-day Adventists.

The 13 other passengers, members of Maranatha Seventh-day Adventist Mission Group in Lauderhill, were also injured, reports the Miami Herald; two remain in extremely critical condition as of Sunday night, including a 2-year-old girl.

The toddler was not sitting in a child car seat, according to the accident report obtained by CBS Miami, and the Florida Highway Patrol is investigating whether any of the passengers wore seat belts at the time of the crash.

A driver who witnessed the crash told the Sun Sentinel, “You see these pictures on TV of third-world countries where bombs went off. That's what it looked like.”

The van reportedly flipped after a rear tire blew out. "She tried to control the van. Unfortunately, she could not," one passenger told WTSP about the driver who was not seriously injured.

This is a developing story.
