Carrie Underwood Had Paul McCartney's Permission To Cover 'Yesterday' On The Emmys

Those wondering what Paul McCartney thought of the "Yesterday" cover Carrie Underwood performed during Sunday's Emmy Awards should wonder no more. Moments after Underwood sang the Beatles' classic (written by McCartney, though credited, as was the Beatles' style, to McCartney and John Lennon), the country music superstar tweeted that she had Sir Paul's permission to play the song.

Despite the McCartney stamp of approval, many were flummoxed by Underwood's Emmys appearance, especially since it came after a segment that memorialized the assassination of John F. Kennedy and celebrated the Beatles' appearance on "The Ed Sullivan Show."
