Kanye West Claims Self-Defense Against Paparazzo Who Sued Him For Assault

Kanye West Claims He Feared For His Safety During Photog Incident

Kanye West is responding to that civil lawsuit filed by a paparazzo, claiming the rapper assaulted him on July 19 at LAX Airport and caused him serious injury.

According to new court documents obtained by TMZ, West has answered the suit by citing self-defense, saying that he believes "his safety was in immediate danger" during the incident.

"[Kanye] responded to this assault by doing only those acts that were reasonably necessary for his self-defense," the response, submitted by West's attorney, reads.

The new dad was charged with criminal battery and attempted grand theft after he allegedly attacked videographer Daniel Ramos in July. If convicted, Kim Kardashian's beau can face up to a year in jail.

A video of the altercation posted on TMZ shows West accusing Ramos of trying to provoke him before he lunged at him. After the scuffle, West left the scene and an ambulance transported Ramos to the hospital.
