Missing Jamari Cook, 3-Year-Old Detroit Boy, Returned Home, Suspect Shemeka McGhee Still Missing

Little Boy Returned Safe, But Kidnapper On The Loose

3-year-old Jamari Cook was returned safely after he was taken from a home in Detroit Thursday night. But the alleged kidnapper is still missing, and presumed armed and dangerous, the Detroit Free Press reports.

Police say 27-year-old Shemeka McGhee was involved in a verbal confrontation with the child's mother at a home on Detroit's east side. McGhee allegedly used a sharp object to stab the other woman, and then fled with Jamari. CBS Detroit identifies the victim as McGhee's ex-girlfriend LaQuoyia Cook and reports that she was taken to the hospital in critical condition, but has since undergone surgery and has a positive prognosis.

According to the Detroit News, an aunt returned the child safely to the same home on Friday morning. The paper reports police spent the night searching the surrounding area using dogs, along with a federal task force.

“No we can refocus our efforts on locating McGee,” Sgt. Michael Woody told the paper.

McGhee is said to be 5-foot-9-inches tall and 140 pounds. According to WXYZ-TV, she has a prior record. The Detroit Police Department provided a photo of the alleged suspect:
