Tom Hanks Doesn't Watch His Old Movies: 'Who Does That?'

The One Tom Hanks Movie Tom Hanks Will Watch

With more than 30 years in the business, Tom Hanks boasts a filmography of classic features, such as "Forrest Gump," "Apollo 13," "Sleepless in Seattle," and even "Toy Story." While they are the kinds of movies that many fans return to for a third or fourth viewing, one person who's not tuning in for multiple re-watches is Hanks himself.

The 57-year-old actor, who most recently appears in the much-hyped "Captain Phillips," spoke to the ShortList about his past films.

"I don't watch any of my old movies," he told the publication. "The one that I might watch with great affection is a little movie I directed, 'That Thing You Do,' which I’m not in that much. I loved doing it so much that when I watch it now it still brings a smile to my face."

"I don't watch my own performances –- who does that?" Hanks continued. "That would be madness. I've seen all the movies once, but I don't need to see them again, because they don't change."

Hanks isn't alone in his lack of affinity for watching himself onscreen. Earlier this year, Johnny Depp voiced a similar sentiment, saying, "I made a choice a long time ago, that I was better off not watching my films, which is a drag because you miss out on a lot of your friends' incredible work. But I feel like it would just harm me. I would rather stay as ignorant as possible about the result of anything because once you're done playing that character, it's really not your business anymore."
