This disputed call at second base was so close that instant replay might not have helped clarify matters after umpire Bill Miller called Dodgers pinch-runner Dee Gordon out trying to swipe the bag.

With one out in the top of the ninth and Atlanta clinging to a 4-3 lead, the Dodgers sent Gordon to pinch-run for A.J. Ellis, who had gotten aboard with a walk. To the surprise of few, Gordon tried to steal second. He slid head first as Braves catcher Gerald Laird's throw bounced into Andrelton Simmons' glove. As Simmons grabbed the ball, he had his mitt near Gordon's backside and may have touched his jersey. Simmons then tagged Gordon again near his foot. That tap on the lower leg came after he appeared to have touched the base.

"Out!" was the call from Miller. Gordon disagreed.

Gordon looked visibly shocked -- and may have created a new Internet meme -- after he got up and found out what had been called.

Dodgers manager Don Mattingly never left the dugout to argue. The Braves went on to win 4-3.

"I'm just as surprised as you are... I thought I was safe," Gordon said after the loss, via Jesse Sanchez of MLB.com.
