Peter King: 'The Republicans Should Not Have Started This'

'The Republicans Should Not Have Started This'

Rep. Peter King (R-N.Y.) said "the Republicans should not have started this" government shutdown, Patch reports.

"[C]losing the government down was the wrong thing to do," King said in a video posted by Patch on Monday. "Having said that, it is what it is, and the president has absolute obligation to come in as the head of the Democratic party but also as the head of the country. And the head of the country has an obligation, he has to end this."

The comments echoed King's earlier statements on the shutdown. On "Fox News Sunday," King said "we are the ones who did shut the government down," referring to Republicans.

"Charles Krauthammer called it the suicide caucus. The Wall Street Journal said they were kamikazes. You don't take the dramatic step of shutting down the government unless you have a real strategy and it has a chance of working. It's never had a chance of working," King said, according to TPM.
