Fran Drescher Dating Shiva Ayyadurai, MIT Grad Who Supposedly Invented 'Email'

Fran Drescher Is Dating The Guy Who Supposedly Invented 'Email'

Fran Drescher is dating again and her new man, Shiva Ayyadurai, has quite the impressive resume. Ayyadurai is a Massachusetts Institute of Technology graduate who supposedly invented "email."

Drescher and Ayyadurai stepped out together on Tuesday, Oct. 15, in Beverly Hills for the premiere of "Bridegroom" at the Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences Samuel Goldwyn Theater. A source told Us Weekly the two were "very affectionate" at the event.

"He [gave] her a kiss," the source added. "They [were] all smiles and [seemed] very into each other and very much in love."

The 56-year-old actress -- whose 1999 divorce from husband Peter Marc Jacobson was the inspiration for her TV Land series "Happily Divorced" -- told HuffPost Live that she had her sights set on younger men last year.

"I'm trying to keep it, like within 10 years now," Drescher said at the time about her dating preferences. "Definitely younger... I've got a lot of energy and a lot of contemporary taste in music or whatever. So I have more in common with guys who are younger."

It seems like that worked out for her because Ayyadurai is seven years her junior.

The 49-year-old MIT alum currently teaches at his alma mater, heading a course called Systems Visualization in MIT’s Department of Comparative Media Studies. Time magazine ran a story on him in 2011, stating he is the first person to hold a copyright for "EMAIL," an electronic mail system he reportedly began developing in 1978 when he was just 14 years old. However, the legitimacy of Ayyadurai's story has come into question since then.
