Kim Kardashian Says Body Criticism During Pregnancy Has Caused Her To 'Avoid The Limelight More'

Kim Reveals Why She's Avoiding The Limelight More

Kim Kardashian said criticism over how she looked during her pregnancy has caused her to step away from the limelight a bit more.

"For me, having people criticize what I wore and looked like when I was pregnant -- that was hard," Kardashian admitted during an interview with British Vogue. "It made me feel insecure, so I have tried to avoid the limelight more. Once you start focusing on the other stuff, the fragrances and our fashion line, you stop worrying about the rest."

She told People magazine the scrutiny over her pregnant body was painful and made her want to "tune out the media."

During her pregnancy, Kardashian's weight was headline fodder, with some Internet users stooping so low as to compare her to a whale. The 33-year-old mom was then noticeably absent from the spotlight and social media in the weeks following the June birth of her baby.

Famous names went to the defense of the reality starlet, most notably feminism icon Gloria Steinem.

"Our bodies are never public property under any circumstance," she told Us Weekly in April. "If our bodies are treated as ornaments instead of instruments, that's because we are rebelling because it's an effort to distract us. So don't be distracted. Why bother getting caught up in that?"

Kardashian herself scoffed at the haters in a recent interview with London's Sunday Times.

"What I have realized is, like, I’ll see people commenting on a look of mine, or I’m pregnant, and they’re completely destroying my look or even just physically what I look like," Kardashian said. "And then you look at this person and you would never take fashion advice from them. This one girl had a big hat with a huge flower and a bow on — her outfit was so ridiculous and she was commenting on something I was wearing."
