After the Red Sox clinched a World Series title at Fenway Park for the first time since 1918, Boston celebrated into the early hours of Thursday morning. Unfortunately, a few of the revelers seem to have behaved more like rioters, overturning cars and climbing traffic lights. At least nine arrests were made in the aftermath of the Red Sox Series-clinching 6-1 win over the St, Louis Cardinals on Wednesday night, according to the Boston Police Department.
The official Twitter account of the Boston Police began encouraging fans to #CelebrateResponsibly after congratulating the Red Sox on the eighth World Series triumph in franchise history. The BPD account then provided updates on the number of arrests made during the ensuing celebration.
In addition to the reports from the BPD, local media and fans around Fenway Park were also sharing images of people climbing traffic lights and light poles. Several images of at least one overturned car were also shared on Twitter in the hours after the game. One fan appeared to have hopped atop a taxi attempting to navigate the mass of people near Fenway Park.
Despite the poor behavior of some in the crowds around Fenway, the Boston Police later thanked the majority of fans for celebrating responsibly.
