How Do Grandparents Affect Social Class?

In case you think that parents are a financial buffer between the generations before and after them, think again. A recent study found that the social class of grandparents does have a measurable influence on the social class of their grandchildren, no matter if the parents have moved up or down, no matter what class we are talking about.

So, OK, this study was conducted in Britain, where the class system still counts for more than it does in the U.S., or so we would like to think. But it makes intuitive sense. As long as grandchildren have contact with their grandparents, the older generation will exert an influence. This study just shows how much.
