According to Dr. Oz , Daytime Emmy Award winning host of "The Dr. Oz Show," there are some surprisingly simple ways to stay healthy and fit as you age.
First, Dr. Oz points out the importance of knowing your blood pressure. A shocking 1/3 of Americans have high blood pressure. 115/75 is the optimal blood pressure level, so strive for a figure close to this.
Next: Limit toxins! Substances like alcohol, cigarettes, prescription or illegal drugs and even certain foods release toxins into the body, so be mindful of what goes into your body to keep your system running smoothly.
Third, eat food that you love but that also happens to be good for you. Dr. Oz says it's important to find foods that you absolutely adore and enjoy eating so that every day isn't a struggle to stick to a boring diet.
Activity is the next factor. Dr. Oz recommends at least 30 minutes of exercise a day, whether it's walking to work, going up and down stairs during your lunch break or finding some other outlet for exercise that works with your lifestyle. If you force a gym workout that eats up too much of your day, you won't be enticed to get physical, so choose an activity that works with your schedule.
Finally, Dr. Oz recommends finding ways to cope with stress more effectively. The best way to cope with stress is through deep breathing, so try to get into this habit whenever things get chaotic.
