Surprise Twist Has Castle And Beckett Experiencing Deadly Deja Vu

A name we thought long gone, after a 100-foot drop into the water, resurfaced on "Castle" this week. When a serial killer started taking down doppelgangers of the police force -- specifically Lanie and Esposito -- Castle had a terrifying thought. What if 3XK was back?

“Jerry Tyson fell off that bridge. It was a hundred-foot drop into the water," Beckett insisted. But, as Castle pointed out, no body was ever found. When they went to check the files and evidence of the 3XK case, they found that all of them had either been checked out or destroyed by one of the doppelgangers. Now the hunt is on for the presumed-dead Jerry Tyson.

“Call me naive (or blame my terrible memory), but I truly wasn't expecting the surprise return of 3XK," wrote Buddy TV's Morgan Glennon. "From the dead doubles to the haunting song promising a future meeting, this is probably one of the creepiest hours 'Castle' has produced.”

Entertainment Weekly's Sandra Gonzalez loved the surprise. "The moment it was revealed [3XK] was the one behind the strange happenings, I berated myself for not seeing it a mile away," she wrote. "To be fair, though, the writers made sure to take many twists and turns to throw us off the scent. Plus, as you’ll recall, the last time we saw 3XK he was taking taking a 100-foot dive off a bridge ... I didn’t connect the dots.”

"Castle" airs Mondays at 10 p.m. EST on ABC.
