Bob Harper Comes Out As Gay To Help Contestant On 'Biggest Loser'

To help a contestant struggling with his own sexuality, Bob Harper made the decision to come out publicly as a gay man on "The Biggest Loser." Bobby had talked openly on the show about being gay, but he'd yet to come out to his father.

“I haven’t talked about my sexuality on this show ever," Bob said in a confessional. "And now, meeting Bobby, I really do believe this is the right time. I want to show Bobby that he doesn’t have to live in shame.”

“When I came out, when I was 17 years old, it was one of those things where I realized that there was going to be so many obstacles, but being gay doesn’t mean being weak," he told Bobby. "And being gay doesn’t mean that you are less than anybody else. It’s just who you are.”

Bob encouraged Bobby to come out to his dad, believing that his dad would support and love him for who he was. While that talk hasn't happened yet -- at least as far as we know -- Bobby did say that Bob's encouragement has given him the push to do it.

Bob took to Twitter to thank the fans for their support of him and Bobby. Buddy TV's Eva Des Lauriers was excited about the reveal. "Whoa! This is a big deal!" she wrote. "Not that he is gay, of course, but that he feels ready or comfortable enough to come out on the show. Awesome. Out of the closet and into our hearts.”

"The Biggest Loser" airs Tuesdays at 8 p.m. EST on NBC.
