Out of a pool of over 250 men, judges crowned 28-year-old Stuart Hatton with the title of Mr. Gay UK 2013 on Nov. 30.
Hatton, a dance teacher and underwear model, was one of 10 finalists that made it through the first round of competition, conducted entirely through the Internet. “The first round was digital," Hatton told the Shields Gazette. "Everyone who entered had to post pictures and write a little about themselves, and whoever got the most tweets and likes won.”
As Instinct Magazine points out, the live competition was moderated by a panel of celebrity judges, including Gay Times Assistant Editor Lee Dalloway and Editorial Assistant Ryan Butcher, Mr. Gay UK 2012 Leroy Williamson, Gayleeds.com Co-Editor Ross McCusker and Swedish pop star Jan George.
“It would be amazing to be Mr. Gay World," Hatton reportedly stated. "Hopefully, I can be a good representative for those guys, not only in South Shields and the North East, but the UK as well."
Mr. Gay UK has been an annual event for almost 20 years.
