ESPN: 'Ron Burgundy' SportsCenter Canceled Due To Jameis Winston Investigation Press Conference

The extensive Ron Burgundy media tour will have one less stop after ESPN announced that the fictional television anchorman will no longer be hosting "SportsCenter." Actor Will Ferrell had been scheduled to host the 6 p.m. edition of ESPN's flagship program on Thursday in character but ESPN announced on Wednesday that the appearance has been canceled due to developments in the sexual assault investigation involving Florida State quarterback Jameis Winston.

The ESPN cancellation came just hours after the prosecutor overseeing the investigation of sexual assault allegations against Winston announced a press conference for 2 p.m. on Thursday afternoon. State Attorney Willie Meggs announced on Wednesday that investigators have completed their investigation into the alleged December 2012 incident and is expected to announce whether Winston will be charged with a crime.

The scheduled "SportsCenter" gig was to be one of several promotional appearances in advance of the release of "Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues." While in character, Ferrell previously interviewed Denver Broncos quarterback Peyton Manning, commentated during the Canadian Olympic curling trials and anchored a local news broadcast in North Dakota.
