'Nymphomaniac' Secures Two-Part Release In March And April 2014

'Nymphomaniac' Hitting Theaters In March

Following one racy clip after the next, including a whole lot more of Shia LaBeouf than any of us bargained for, Lars von Trier's gritty sex drama, "Nymphomaniac," has finally secured a U.S. release date.

"Nymphomaniac" has long been set to premiere in Denmark and Spain on Dec. 25, but Magnolia Pictures announced in a press release on Thursday that Part One will debut via on-demand services on March 6 before a theatrical bow on March 21. Part Two, meanwhile, hits on-demand services on April 3, before expanding to theaters on April 18.

When "Nymphomaniac" opens in Denmark on Christmas Day, it will screen in its full, five-hour entirety. Some other countries, such as Poland, are adopting the same two-part model coming to the U.S.

Von Trier's movie has been the subject of a never-ending cycle of buzz, as it has been touted as one of the most sexually graphic films ever made. The director will do no press for the release, having vowed to let his movies speak itself. Von Trier was the source of much controversy for remarks made at the 2011 Cannes Film Festival. "I really wanted to be a Jew, then I found out I was actually a Nazi," von Trier said at the festival while promoting "Melancholia." "My family was German, Hartmann, which also gave me some pleasure. I understand Hitler, he certainly did some wrong things, but I can imagine him sitting in his bunker toward the end ... Now how can I get out of this sentence? OK, I'm a Nazi." (Von Trier later apologized for the remark.)

In case you're not up on what Stellan Skarsgard, one of the film's stars, calls a "really bad porn movie," here are clips of LaBeouf's sex scene and Charlotte Gainsbourg's impending sex scene, revealing character posters and a predictably NSFW trailer.

The descriptions of the movies, according to the press release, are:

NYMPHOMANIAC: PART ONE is the story of Joe (Charlotte Gainsbourg), a self-diagnosed nymphomaniac who is discovered badly beaten in an alley by an older bachelor, Seligman (Stellan Skarsgard), who takes her into his home. As he tends to her wounds, she recounts the erotic story of her adolescence and young-adulthood (portrayed in flashback by Stacy Martin). PART ONE also stars Shia LaBeouf, Christian Slater, Uma Thurman, Sophie Kennedy Clark, Connie Nielsen and Udo Kier.

PART TWO picks up with the story of Joe's adulthood, and stars Jamie Bell, Willem Dafoe, Mia Goth and Jean-Marc Barr in addition to Gainsbourg, Skarsgard, Martin and LaBeouf.
