During a weekend radio interview with Saturday Night Online, Kanye West conflated the stage stunts he performs nightly as part of the Yeezus tour with the risk of being a police officer or a soldier in war.
“When I think about when I’m on the 'Can't Tell Me Nothing,' and 'Coldest Winter' moment, like that mountain goes really, really high. And if I slipped ... You never know. And I think about it. I think about my family and I'm like, 'Wow, this is like being a police officer or something, in war or something,'" West said.
For his part, West performs the aforementioned songs lying on his back at the tip of a narrow stage which has risen approximately 20 feet in the air. There is no safety net, and a wobbly performance would almost certainly result in injury.
With such high-flying antics and a rigorous tour schedule, West hopes that his daughter, North West, will understand that all the risks he has taken were for her.
“I’ll explain to my daughter one day, that me and her mother, we had to fight for this position that we’ll finally have,” he said. Watch the interview below.
