Mama Joyce continued her string of over-protective behavior on "The Real Housewives of Atlanta." This week, she physically attacked her daughter's girlfriends while out wedding dress shopping for Kandi. Apparently, Joyce is positive that Carmon is sleeping with Kandi's fiance, Todd. Everyone denies it, but Joyce is certain -- and kind of hoping the "information" will break up Kandi's engagement. Joyce is also "positive" that Todd is only with Kandi for her money.
When Joyce started lashing out at Carmon, Kandi found herself in the position of having to get between her mother and her friend. “You need to get outta here!" Joyce startes shouting. "She needs to get the f*** out of here ... this is a family thing. You ain’t no damn family!" It was getting so crazy that Kandi's brother had to physically restrain Joyce.
The Stir's Rebecca Stokes has dubbed Joyce this season's villain, but kind of blames Kandi. "She totally engages her mother's inability to let her daughter have any degree of emotional space," she wrote of Kandi. "I'm playing arm-chair analyst and saying that Kandi has a raging case of codependency." Buddy TV's Jennifer Lind-Westbrook agreed, saying that Kandi needs to stand up to her mom.
Kandi dropped by "Watch What Happens: Live" and admitted that she and her mother aren't exactly on speaking terms these days. Nevertheless, she continued to defend Joyce. "I don’t care if she doesn’t like my relationship, that’s my mom," Kandi insisted. "You know what I’m saying? That’s my mom. I’m gonna make sure my mother’s good. She don’t have to talk to me, she doesn’t have to say nothing to me. That’s my momma.”
