An arrest has been made in the murder of a Philadelphia man shot and left for dead over a pair of "Beats By Dre" headphones.
Arkel Garcia, 19, was charged Monday in the killing of 21-year-old Christian Massey, NBC Philadelphia reports.
Massey, a recent high school graduate with special needs, was walking home on Nov. 30 with a brand new pair of $300 "Beats By Dre" headphones purchased on Black Friday. Police say that Garcia demanded Massey give him the headphones.
According to the Philadelphia Inquirer:
When Massey refused to hand them over, his assailant shot him in an alley off Lebanon Avenue. He was conscious when police found him -- and was able to tell officers about the attempted robbery. But he died a half-hour later at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania, police said.
Police say Garcia ran off, leaving without the headphones.
"It was dumb. He had just bought the headphones. He had bought them that Friday," Massey's grandmother Eula Hodge told WPVI.
"He always tells me when he left, 'Grandma, I'll be back,' and I'd say, 'Okay then.' He always came back and now he ain't going to come back," she said.
