'How I Met Your Mother' Series Finale Will Air In March

'HIMYM' Series Finale Will Come Sooner Than Expected

"How I Met Your Mother" will end much sooner than expected.

The sitcom's series finale will air on Monday, March 31, a few months before most series end. CBS will air the hour-long goodbye in the series' usual time slot, 8 p.m. EST before leading into James Van Der Beek's new show, "Friends With Better Lives."

Show co-creator, Carter Bays, tweeted news on Thursday (Dec. 19) with a nostalgic sentiment:

But the show still has so much in store before it wraps up for good. The 200th episode, "How Your Mother Met Me," will be all about the mother and is told entirely from her point of view. Executive producer Craig Thomas said, "If she doesn’t get nominated for a guest Emmy for this episode, I don’t know what one has to do to get that."

Starting April 14, "Two Broke Girls" will take over the time slot "HIMYM" held onto for years, and "Friends With Better Lives" will assume the 8:30 p.m. air time.
