9-Year-Old Girl Helped Deliver Her Baby Sister

A 9-year-old Chicago girl, relying on what she had seen on a medical TV show, proved integral to the delivery of her baby sister this week.

According to ABC Chicago, 9-year-old Alyssa Meza was there when her mother went into labor two weeks early in their home in the city's Little Village neighborhood on Sunday.

Her mother reportedly said she felt the baby coming and Alyssa, who wants to be a paramedic when she grows up, helped catch her little sister as she came out of her mother.

Alyssa wrapped the baby in a towel and noticed she was still wrapped up in the umbilical cord. She proceeded to cut the cord herself, with the help of a neighbor, Fox Chicago reports.

Both the baby, named Aaliyah, and her mother are doing well and left the hospital on New Year's Day.
