Daughter Of Prison Official Charged With Attempted Murder Speaks Out

The daughter of a high-ranking North Carolina prison official facing attempted murder charges says her father would never attempt to run over a pedestrian deliberately.

"He is a wonderful man ... He loves everyone," Destiney Davis, told The Huffington Post. "I feel like some of his charges are unreal – fake, because I know my dad and he would only protect himself if [he needed to]."

Davis' father, Stephen Brian Bolden, is an assistant superintendent at the Swannanoa Correctional Center for Women in Black Mountain, N.C. Bolden was charged Tuesday with one count of attempted second-degree murder and two counts of hit and run, according to the Asheville Citizen-Times.

A 45-year-old resident of Asheville, Bolden was reportedly at a local mobile home park early Tuesday morning when he allegedly attempted to run down an unidentified man with his 1997 Toyota. The victim jumped out of the way, causing Bolden to crash into a parked car, which was then pushed into a third vehicle, the Times reported.

Bolden allegedly fled the scene. He was later arrested at his home.

A possible motive is not yet known. The Asheville Police Department did not immediately return calls for comment from The Huffington Post on Thursday.

The Swannanoa Correctional Center for Women is reportedly conducting an internal investigation to determine what action, if any, will be taken against Bolden.

According to the North Carolina Department of Public Safety website, the correctional center is a minimum security prison. It's a relatively new facility, having opened its door in 2008. The website states the prison houses approximately 366 inmates.

Bolden is being held at the Buncombe County Detention Facility in lieu of a $51,000 bond.

The day before Bolden's arrest, the status on a Facebook page attributed to him was updated with a quote from poet Maya Angelou. It reads:

"People will forget what you said. But people will never forget how you made them feel."
