With all the doom and gloom in the news, it's easy to feel pessimistic about the state of things. But maybe that's because we're not hearing enough of the good.
Like the fact that the amount of people living on $1.25 a day has been cut in half in just over two decades. Or that drastically fewer women are experiencing unintended pregnancies around the world, and infant mortality is at an all-time low. Even divorce rates are at their lowest since the 1970s.
John Green, young adult fiction author and witty vlogger (who you may remember from his video about bullying last November), shared this and more to remind us that there are plenty of reasons to hope as we begin the new year. It's possible that 2014 could be humanity's best year to date.
