Caleb Jacoby Missing: Police Searching For Son Of Boston Globe Columnist Jeff Jacoby

Help Find The Missing Son Of Boston Globe Columnist Jeff Jacoby

Massachusetts police are asking for the public's help in locating Caleb Jacoby, the 16-year-old son of Boston Globe columnist Jeff Jacoby.

Brookline police say the teenager, an 11th-grade student at Boston's Maimonides School, was last seen at about 12:30 p.m. on Monday.

"We don't know anything. We don't have even a clue," Caleb Jacoby's Hebrew teacher Efrat Lipschitz told MassLive.com.

Lipschitz added, "He's a very quiet boy, he's also a very good one. People really love him in school because he is a very good person."

A statement released by the Maimonides School says officials there are "engaging all of its resources to aid Caleb's parents and the Brookline Police."

The school has helped organize several community-wide searches, which are ongoing Tuesday afternoon.

Jeff Jacoby tweeted early Wednesday that his family is "deeply grateful for everything being done to reunite us with our beloved son Caleb."

In 1997, Jeff Jacoby wrote an article for The Boston Globe titled, "A message to my newborn son". The story, which was published on March 27 of that year, was about the recent birth of Caleb. Within the lengthy article, Jeff Jacoby described his love for his son and his hopes for the future. He also offered words of wisdom that are as true today as the day he wrote them.

"But what I care about most is not your success or wealth or popularity. What I care about most is your goodness," he wrote. "Whatever else people may think of you, I want them to know you first and foremost as a decent and ethical person. For what this world badly needs is more decent and ethical people."

Caleb Jacoby is described as 5-foot-11 and 140 pounds, with a thin build and light brown hair. He was last seen wearing pants or jeans, a polo shirt, brown shoes and a brown winter jacket.

Police urge anyone with information about Caleb Jacoby's whereabouts to contact them at (617) 730-2222.
