We immediately burst into laughter at the very thought of Betty White's gullible character Rose Nylund. (She had the kookiest way of making a point.) But we were totally shocked to discover vintage makeup commercials that showed us a glamorous side of "The Golden Girl."
In this video clip, we see a brunette Betty (yes, she wasn't born blonde) fronting Richard Hudnut cosmetics. Dressed in fabulous '50s frocks and statement jewelry, she does a damn good job of promoting Hudnut's at-home perm system, roll-on lipstick, shampoo and conditioner. It's kind of surreal to believe that you could buy the two latter products for under $1.50.
Unlike beauty ads today, which focus on the end results, these retro commercials actually take us through the application process. So much more helpful. And we don't mind the fact that the models look glamorous while doing it, too!
