Mother's Full-Page Newspaper Ad Asks Son To Come Home

Mom Buys Newspaper's Front Page To Contact Son

A Chinese mother was reportedly so upset her son was not answering her calls that she decided to do something he would be sure to see.

If a 21CN report is to be believed, the mother bought a full-page ad in Tuesday's edition of the Chinese Melbourne Daily -- a major Chinese-language newspaper in Australia -- to pen an open letter to her Australia-based son.

According to a Huffington Post translation, the newspaper's front page reads:

Peng:

I've called you many times but you don't answer,
but maybe you'll see this.
Your dad and mom won't force you to get married again,
come back home this year to celebrate Chinese New Year.

Love, your mom

Apparently, Peng's family had repeatedly tried to pressure him into marriage, so he stopped returning their calls, reports note. However, his family still wanted him to return home to celebrate the new year on Jan. 31.

After a photo of the front page was posted to social media site Sina Weibo, the image circulated quickly and spurred many users to comment on the mother's open letter. While some users were critical of Peng, others sympathized with his situation, the South China Morning Post notes.
