The American Family Association 's Bryan Fischer had harsh words for the transgender community this week, claiming that trans people were "anti-science."
As Right Wing Watch first reported, Fischer -- whose anti-lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) declarations have become a near-weekly staple of his "Focal Point" radio show -- told listeners that gender identity was decided by a "creator God who doesn't make ... mistakes."
Fischer went on to note, "If people have male DNA, they have male anatomy, and they think they're trapped inside a female body, that is not God's fault, there is something wrong with their own thinking."
He then implied that questioning gender identity was the work of "Satan," adding, "If we embrace the truth that we find in the Scriptures, that you are either male or female ... and you take authority over any lie that comes into your mind, then you eventually will be thinking straight about your sexual identity."
Fischer was apparently responding to recent Fox News column by Keith Albow, who criticized California's new transgender student rights bill, which took effect on Jan. 1.
"I am not convinced by any science I can find that people with definitively male DNA and definitively male anatomy can actually be locked in a cruel joke of nature because they are actually female," Albow wrote.
Of course, Fischer's remarks are less surprising given the conservative pundit's history. Last month, he took to the airwaves in defense of "Duck Dynasty" star Phil Robertson, whose racially-charged, anti-gay remarks in a GQ interview made headlines in December.
"Be a Phil in your own world. Take heart from his example, be inspired by his example," Fischer said at the time, Right Wing Watch first reported. "What we need is about 150 million Phil Robertsons out there in every circumstance, every situation, every conversation."
