Earlier this year, Patriots coach Bill Belichick let his opinions on the extra point play known.
He called the play a waste of time, seeing that NFL kickers practically make every single one. It appears NFL commissioner Roger Goodell was listening.
“There’s one proposal in particular that I’ve heard about," Goodell said. "It’s automatic that you get seven points when you score a touchdown, but you could potentially go for an eighth point, either by running or passing the ball, so if you fail, you go back to six.”
That's not necessary a bad proposal and one that would keep the game at a fast pace. Having the option to go for two or to take the automatic point would certainly please Belichick. Other coaches around the league? That remains to be seen.
