PS4 Error Corrupts Saved Files For Hundreds Of Players

Sony Investigates PS4 Error

Sony is investigating a PlayStation 4 error that causes some players to lose saved data, according to Polygon.

Known as CE-34878-0, the error indicates that an application has crashed and reportedly corrupts saved files, resulting in what could be hours of lost progress for players. On rare occasions, users report that the error prevents them from opening apps and even "bricks" their consoles, rendering them useless.

Hundreds of PS4 owners have taken to the message boards to express their frustration. The 37-page thread on the PlayStation Forum shows players losing saved data for games like "Resogun," "Battlefield 4," "FIFA 14," "NBA 2K14," "Assassin's Creed: Black Flag" and others.

While there is currently no one-size-fits-all fix to the issue, the PlayStation support site encourages players experiencing the error to close the game and re-install the latest software or patches available. Some players posting on the forum have reported success using this method, but not all.

If the problem persists, Sony recommends backing up saved data and then initializing the console, or reaching out to Sony if additional support is needed.

The PlayStation 4 was released November 2013 and so far has sold over 4.2 million consoles worldwide.
