Spencer Wilson, Teen Cancer Survivor, Makes 50-Foot Game-Winning Shot (VIDEO)

Teen Cancer Survivor Makes Incredible 50-Foot Shot, Wins Way More Than A Basketball Game

Last Friday, when his high school basketball team was down by one point with only 2.2 seconds left to play, Spencer Wilson hit a 50-foot shot.

"Right when the ball went in, I just thought it was a dream," Spencer told WFMY. "I was like, this can't be real."

But this wasn't the first time the 17-year-old from Kernersville, N.C., has beaten the odds.

Spencer is also a cancer survivor, according to Yahoo! Shine. When he was 13 years old, he was diagnosed with a rare tissue cancer and given an 85 percent chance of survival. Over the next five years, he battled the disease twice before winning his fight, the news outlet reported.

Helping him through it all was Josh Rominger, a friend also battling cancer, according to WFMY. Josh died last year -- so when Spencer's coach asked his players to each write the name of someone who inspires them on a basketball, Spencer wrote Josh's.

When Spencer made the final shot in Friday's game, captured in the YouTube video below, the victory was about something more than a sport.
