Amy Gutmann Stresses The Struggle Of Getting More Women Into Leadership Roles

During an interview with HuffPost Live at Davos, University of Pennsylvania President Amy Gutmann told how she discussed women in leadership with U.S. Sen. Claire McCaskill (D-Mo.) while at Davos.

Gutmann said she asked McCaskill if she thought the United States government would be in a better position if there were more women.

"She and I basically have the same answer to this," Gutmann said. "Women learn very early on about relationships and they're caregivers -- more and more men are too... [they learn] that the way you get satisfaction and the way you make progress is sometimes giving other people credit for what your idea was, and giving them something that you otherwise wouldn't want to give."

"On average women are socialized to get that more," Gutmann continued. "What they're not socialized to be is to be the leaders, so therefore, the struggle is getting more women into leadership positions without making them become the command and control model of men."
