'Health Is Wealth' Panel At Davos: Arianna Talks With Francis S. Collins, Paul Bulcke, Joseph Jimenez And Mauricio Cárdenas

'Health Is Wealth' Panel Addresses Global Wellness

Arianna moderated a Saturday panel at Davos called "Health is Wealth," focusing on how we can improve wellness and prosperity around the world.

Members of the panel included Dr. Francis Collins, director of the National Institutes of Health; Nestlé CEO Paul Bulcke; Novartis CEO Joseph Jimenez; and Mauricio Cárdenas, Colombia's Minister of Finance and Public Credit and former Minister of Mines and Energy. Topics included obesity, vision, mental wellness and how healthcare can help developing countries around the world.

Arianna said what the panel demonstrated is that "we are at the tipping point of recognizing that health is wealth."

"Health doesn't just make us happier... it also helps economic growth. It helps societies to grow faster," Mauricio Cárdenas said.

Jimenez said his company has worked for several years to improve the health of its employees. He said at the company's canteens around the world, the healthiest meal is always provided at the lowest cost, and employees are rewarded for staying active.

"We've been able to track over time how that has improved health," Jimenez said.

Bulcke said people often don't think preventatively about their health.

"You only give it value when you lose it," Bulcke said.

Collins said we need to do "some individualizing" in health.

"One size fits all is not the nature of humanity," Collins said.
