Could you drop out of your everyday life for an entire month to become more mindful?
That's exactly what Marie Claire senior editor Whitney Joiner did when she attended a month-long meditation retreat. She spent her days alternating between sessions of sitting meditation, which lasted between 20 and 45 minutes, and 15-minute intervals of walking meditation. She also did yoga, shared meals with others on the retreat and participated in discussion groups about finding and sustaining inner peace.
By the end of the month, Joiner felt her life had been changed.
"I felt so grounded afterwards and so peaceful," she told HuffPost Live. "Of course that doesn't completely last when you come back into your everyday life, but afterwards I felt much more able to stay with myself and stay with my experience and stay present."
