Olympic Gold Medalist Scott Hamilton has an incredible story to share about his victory over cancer. When it comes to getting through the tough times, Scott had some valuable advice to share with us.
“What helped me get through cancer was watching my mom go through cancer,” Scott told us. When his mother was diagnosed with breast cancer and going through chemotherapy, she would always find the positive in every situation. “She kept it light,” Scott said.
Because of his mother’s influence, Scott would fill his hospital room with laughter and light, making sure to always find the positive. “My nurses treated me like an eight-year-old, my Band-Aids were all SpongeBob, you name it!” he said.
“I always tried to create an atmosphere that was joyful. There were moments, but I wanted to remember it as a time where I made that environment where I wanted to be,” Scott said.
