Singer-songwriter Mary Lambert, who rose to fame after writing and singing the chorus on Macklemore's "Same Love," recently opened up about a number of aspects of her personal life, including her relationship with her new girlfriend and growing up with a lesbian mother.
Lambert sat down with "Access Hollywood" for an extensive interview following her performance at the 2014 Grammys and she shared that her mother came out as a lesbian when she was six years old.
“It was fine. I don't think you really understand totally what's going on," Lambert told "Access Hollywood." "It's just like mom's dating somebody new. The divorce was difficult, you know, my parents' divorce. But as far as sexual orientation, it's like, you know, you can understand at a really young age how universal love is. It wasn't until I was in middle school or in grade school that I was like, 'Oh, okay, I'm weird now.'"
Lambert also shared the details of her new relationship with Michelle Chamuel, the runner-up on the fourth season of NBC's "The Voice."
“She's so kind... very loving and expressive, and extremely similar to me in a lot of ways,” Lambert continued. “It's really incredible to be around her. Her presence is beautiful... She's really supportive."
Following the success of "Same Love," Mary Lambert recorded her own full-length track of the song's chorus called "She Keeps Me Warm." She has since become a prominent LGBT figure in the entertainment industry and previously stated that she aims to highlight lesbian visibility and the evolving perspective of gay relationships within mainstream culture.
