How Winter Olympics Athletes' Bodies Have Changed (VIDEO)

Figure skaters are smaller. Ice hockey players are bigger.

The bodies of athletes have taken some drastic turns since the first Winter Olympics in 1924. Now AsapSCIENCE and the CBC break down the physique evolution in an animated video.

On the plus side, specialization has allowed for more body types in sports, according to the clip. But the need for aerodynamics in events such as ski jumping has created darker consequences for athletes wanting to maintain a light body weight.
