Kim Bigler has devoted her life to helping kids in the foster system, running an organization out of her home that provides foster children with necessary items they all-to-often lack. So, when Soleil Moon Frye and the design team from the show "Home Made Simple" arrived at Kim's house and saw the large patio where she often works, it was time to create a multifunctional outdoor office space.
After undertaking several creative DIY design projects (like hanging vertical gardens made from rain gutters) and repurposing shelving to build chic storage solutions, the patio transformation is complete.
Kim walks through her gate and her jaw drops. "It totally looks like an office in here!" she says.
Orange built-in shelves and a modular workstation not only allow Kim to stay organized, but they also bring in vibrant pops of color. "If hope had a color, this would be it," Kim says. "This is so gorgeous."
In addition to the outdoor office, the "Home Made Simple" team also created a relaxing lounge area for Kim, complete with $25 bookshelves that have been turned into comfortable chaise lounges that unhinge, displaying storage space filled to the brim with supplies donated by P&G.
With the makeover complete, it's a fun and functional outdoor work area that helps Kim make the most of her space. Discover more home makeovers and simple DIY projects on "HomeMadeSimpleTV.com," airing Saturdays at 9 a.m. ET on OWN.
