It's OK to mimic what you see on the runways and red carpet as you try to discover your own sense of style. But there's something about a woman who can take a trend and make it all her own that is so impressive. And that's exactly what the ladies who landed on this week's best beauty list know how to do.
Freida Pinto's pastel makeup was like a breath of fresh air at New York Fashion Week Fall 2014. Meanwhile, Solange Knowles gave her Seventies-tastic Afro a modern touch with bright orange lips. And Diane Kruger proved that you don't have to pile on the makeup when sporting an intricate updo.
Check out these unique beauty looks (plus not-so-great hair and makeup) below.
BEST: Freida Pinto
Freida was spotted sitting pretty front row at Michael Kors wearing a chic updo, shimmery purple eyeshadow and a gorgeous mauve lipstick. Can it be spring already?
BEST: Solange Knowles
Solange finally showed up to Fashion Week towards the middle of the event, but she definitely showed out! Her blunt cut 'fro, bold brows peeking out from behind her round sunglasses and that matte orange lip color is amazing.
BEST: Diane Kruger
When your brows are groomed to perfection like Diane's, you can really get away with a barely-there makeup look. Her retro-inspired updo adds a bit of interest and highlights her wavy hair texture.
All hail, Queen Bey! The singer posted this flawless image on her Tumblr site working a milkmaid braid, face-framing bangs, cat-eye liner and nude-pink lipstick.
BEST: Amy Adams
Sure the actress' shiny and luxe red ringlets harken back to old Hollywood, but Amy wears it well with just a few coats of mascara, blush and glossy lips.
WORST: Rita Ora
We love that the Roc Nation artist switched up her hair and went super sleek and straight, but her droopy smokey eye makeup is dragging her entire look down.
WORST: Tara Reid
We know that Tara can do better than these cornstarch yellow hair extensions, dated metallic gold eyeshadow and hot pink lipstick. The heavy hair and makeup just masks her natural beauty.
WORST: Imogen Poots
With this messy hair and dry lips, the "That Awkward Moment" actress looks like she just rolled out of bed and onto the red carpet. A more pulled-together hairstyle and nude lip color would have worked with her sultry eye liner.
WORST: Virginie Efira
No one ever wants to hear the words, "you look tired." But that's exactly what came to mind when we saw Virginie wearing this sloppy chignon, burnished red eyeshadow and frosted lipstick.
WORST: Naomi Watts
Naomi looks like one metallic blur with her shiny sequin dress, intense bronzer/blush and those too-dark brows. Less brow fill-in and cheek glow would have turned this look around.
