Newt Gingrich Calls On John Kerry To Resign

Former House Speaker and Republican presidential candidate Newt Gingrich is calling on Secretary of State John Kerry to resign after calling climate change "perhaps the world's most fearsome weapon of mass destruction."

Gingrich took to Twitter Monday evening to voice his opposition to Kerry's remarks, calling the secretary of state "delusional":

In a subsequent tweet, Gingrich acknowledged his misspelling of Kerry's name and apologized to former Nebraska Senator Bob Kerrey:

Kerry's remarks came during a Sunday speech in Jakarta, Indonesia, during which he warned that global warming could put "the entire way of life that you live" at risk.

"Think about the proliferation of weapons of mass destruction. It doesn't keep us safe if the United States secures its nuclear arsenal while other countries fail to prevent theirs from falling into the hands of terrorists," Kerry said. "The bottom line is this: it is the same thing with climate change. In a sense, climate change can now be considered another weapon of mass destruction, perhaps even the world's most fearsome weapon of mass destruction."

Gingrich, however, has repeatedly dismissed the dangers of man-made climate change.

“What kind of hubris does it take to say, I know exactly what this planet’s temperature ought to be and I'm going to manage it to that effect?” Gingrich said during an episode of CNN's "Crossfire" last month. "The age of the dinosaurs was dramatically warmer than this is right now and it didn’t cook the planet ... In fact, life was fine."
