8-Tailed Iguana Latest Addition To Todd Ray's Weird Animal Collection

LOOK: You Won't Believe How Many Tails This Iguana Has

You'd might expect the man with the world's largest collection of two-headed animals hears a lot of tales about strange creatures.

So Todd Ray, who owns the Venice Beach Freakshow in Los Angeles was naturally skeptical when a woman in Florida told him she had an iguana with eight tails.

"I had never heard of such a thing," Ray told The Huffington Post. "There are lots of iguanas with two tails. I have one of those, but I've never see one like this."

Ray saw the pictures, but nothing prepared him for the sight when the as-yet unnamed octo-iguana arrived at the steps of the Freakshow.

"I don't know how old it is, but it's about four feet long so it must be pretty old," he said. "I don't know if it was born with all the tails or if they are partial breaks where another tail grew."

The iguana is still getting used to life in California, Ray said.

"The first time I tried to pet it, it hit me with all its tails," he said. "Now, it loves being rubbed on the head."

Ray is rubbing his own noggin trying to figure out what to name the reptile. He plans on letting people offer suggestions at his Facebook page.

No word on when the eight-tailed iguana will be put on display or if it will be seen on Ray's TV show, "Freakshow" when it returns for its second season on AMC later this Spring.
