WASHINGTON -- Vice President Joe Biden and his wife, Dr. Jill Biden, hosted a reception honoring Black History Month at the Naval Observatory on Tuesday.

The Bidens were joined by notable African-American political figures, including Secretary of Homeland Security Jeh Johnson, Secretary of Transportation Anthony Foxx, senior Obama adviser Valerie Jarrett, and Sacramento Mayor Kevin Johnson, a former NBA star.

"I told the president, next game, I've got him," Biden said, suggesting he and Kevin Johnson would team up. "I may be a white boy, but I can jump."

In a speech at the reception, Biden denounced discriminatory voting laws like those that have prevailed in North Carolina, Alabama and Texas, asserting that he, the president and the attorney general are committed to bringing fair legislation to all voters.

"This fight has been too long, this fight has been too hard, to do anything other than win -- not on the margins -- but flat-out win," Biden said.
