The world lost a comedy legend on Monday when filmmaker Harold Ramis passed away at the age of 69. Ramis' genius was a key force behind the classic films "Ghostbusters", "Groundhog Day", "Caddyshack" and "National Lampoon's Vacation".

Following his death, fans paid tribute to the late writer/director/actor outside the iconic Tribeca firehouse that was used as the exterior of the Ghostbusters' headquarters in the wildly successful movie franchise. Ramis played Dr. Egon Spengler in addition to co-writing both the original movie and its sequel along with co-star Dan Aykroyd.

The makeshift memorial in front of the famed New York building included well-known "Ghostbusters" quotes as well as iconic paranormal paraphernalia such as Twinkies and marshmallows.

Ramis inspired a generation of moviegoers, and that admiration was evident in the many items left by devoted fans.
